I was originally going to write about Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty (we’re going to start out easy with a very, very strange ballet re-imagining), but I just found out some very exciting news and it has me positively giddy!

This season, the Royal Ballet (my personal favorite ballet company) is going to be staging Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (the very first ballet I ever saw) and the role of the Mad Hatter is going to be danced by a woman! Amelia Townsend is going to be putting on the tap shoes of the Hatter and tapping her way through the Mad Tea Party.

After 13 years it’s time to get the tap shoes back on 🙊 So excited to make my debut as ‘The Mad Hatter’ in Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland starting June 13th 🎩💚 @Royal Ballet and Opera Captured by @Dancersdiary 🎥

The Wonderland Ballet is always going to have a special place in my heart and I even paid homage to the Royal Ballet’s Hatter with a cosplay recently at Emerald City Comic Con with my dear friend Erin (who dressed as Alice). We got the fabulous Jodie Whittaker to be our Dormouse.

I’m hoping that the Royal Ballet films one of the productions of this run of Alice as I would love to see Ms. Townsend dance the Hatter. But no matter what, I wish her the very best. I know that she’s going to be positively amazing!
